Enterprise Security Reporter

  • What are the system requirements for Enterprise Security Reporter?
    • Enterprise Security Reporter’s Discovery Console, Reporting Console, and Discovery Engine can be installed on all versions of Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, XP, and Vista operating systems running .NET Framework 2.0 or later. The Discovery and Reporting databases can be configured on any version of SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 or 2008 R2. Enterprise Security Reporter can discover information on all versions of Windows NT, 2000, 2003, 2008, XP, Vista, and 7 operating systems; as well as NT domains and Windows 2000, 2003, 2008, and 2008 R2 Active Directory domains.

  • How is Enterprise Security Reporter licensed?
    • Enterprise Security Reporter is licensed on a "named computer" basis. A separate license must be acquired for each computer that will be discovered. The license may not be moved to another computer. For SharePoint servers, each web front end server in the SharePoint farm needs a license. For SQL Servers, each SQL Server being discovered will require a license. Each license used for a SQL server will also provide the ability to discover local server settings such as files, folders, file shares, local users and more. Additionally each computer license purchased allows for the discovery of one domain.

  • Do I need a license for every server on my network?
    • No. You only need a license for every server on which you want to generate reports. So, to produce a report covering 20 servers you must have 20 licenses.

Example: I have 400 servers on my network and I want to run security reports on 50 of them. You need 50 Enterprise Security Reporter licenses.

  • Can I move licenses from one server to another?
    • No. Licenses are effectively "named server" licenses, and can only be used on the server for which they were bought.

  • If I choose to discover a SQL Server that is located on a server that has already been discovered, will this require an additional license?
    • No, the SQL Server and Computer license are one and the same. One license will entitle you to discover local computer settings such as files, folders, file shares and local users as well as SQL Server settings such as databases, database objects, and SQL Server security.

  • What versions of SQL Server can be discovered with Enterprise Security Reporter?
    • All SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008, and 2008 R2 versions are supported as discovery targets with Enterprise Security Reporter (Server and Express Editions).

  • What versions of SharePoint can be discovered with Enterprise Security Reporter?
    • Enterprise Security Reporter supports discovering and reporting on SharePoint Server 2010, SharePoint Foundation 2010, Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007 and Windows SharePoint Services 3.0.

  • What happens if I exceed my license count?
    • The Discovery process will discover as many servers as you have licenses in each discovery job. However, you are still required to own a license for every server that you plan to examine using Enterprise Security Reporter, even if you only do not intend to run a discovery against all of them in one job.

  • Is an evaluation license available? What restrictions does it have?
    • Yes, a 30-day evaluation license is available from www.scriptlogic.com. The evaluation license restricts searches to 3 servers and 5000 "objects" (user accounts, files, shares, groups, etc...).

  • Can I extend my evaluation?

  • How do I find out how many licenses I have installed?
    • The status bar in the Discovery Console shows how many licenses you have installed.

  • How do I find out how many licenses I've used?
    • The Discovery Administration Console shows how many servers you have selected to discover in the current discovery job in the text box labeled "Servers". However, you are required to purchase a license for all servers that Enterprise Security Reporter will be used to report on, even if they are not included in the current discovery job.

  • How do I install Enterprise Security Reporter on multiple workstations?
    • Every time you install Enterprise Security Reporter on a workstation you must re-apply the original license file supplied to you by ScriptLogic.

  • Will ScriptLogic write or customize reports for me?
    • ScriptLogic will provide guidance and documentation on how to use the report creation and customization capabilities of Enterprise Security Reporter, and will help with technical difficulties you may encounter.
